Child's coin purse/locket circa 1920
« on: October 14, 2009, 11:12:08 am »
I am trying to find out some information about a child's locket or coin purse that I have that was my mother's.  It is metal and is lined with what lookes like blue cotton.  It is approx 1 1/4 inches by approx 1 3/4 to 2 inches.  It has Red Riding Hood and the wolf on one side and Peter Rabbit on the other.  Anyone ever see one of these before or have any information on them?  Thanks  Sandy Brill

Cool looking item.

I love the hammered backgrounding.
Maybe the stylish border around Red Riding Hood may give a clue to it's age.

What year was your mom born in and what country did her parents come from?
Any chance that this was handed down to your mother from a previous generation?

Any chance you may have overlooked any small markings?

Please post a picture of it in open position!

Thank you so much for your response.  My mother was born in 1920.  I do not know if it was something that was handed down to her or not.  Her mother was Swedish, having come over with her parents from Sweden, and her father was Norwegian, having come over with his parents from Norway.  I looked at it with a magnifying glass and did not see any markings, writing, or stamp that might help identify it, however, I do not believe the blue cotton cloth on the inside was the original lining...it looks like it was either a heavy paper or possibly leather.  There are also two small spots at the top--one on each side--that look as though a chain was attached to it at one time.
