My mother in-law bought this chair at an antique store. She's redone the finish. It had old flaking paint on it when she bought it, and that had to be stripped off. What I'd like to know is: A) How old is it? B) What is it exactly? C) What might it be worth?
It swivels around and leans back thanks to a spring loaded iron mechanism under the seat. I cant find any markings, although I think "Patent" something or another is cast onto the iron bit, but I can't make it out. The seat is missing it's upholstery, my in-laws just put a cushion in it. I believe the carving on the seat back is a ram's head.
My own opinion is that it's an office chair from around the turn of the twentieth century. I however know very little about furniture, so I'm counting on you to help me tell her what it is that she's got. I'm sure one of you have seen a chair like this before. Thanks!
