Little European stand
« on: November 14, 2009, 10:06:27 pm »
Picked this one up this weekend , just because I liked it & it would fit in a specific place in the hse .

It came over from Scotland in the early 1950's by ship ( sadly , it was refinished just proir to shipping ) & came with orig. shipping tag from the trip .

It's around 33 1/2" X 21 1/4" X 39" tall (top of back marble) .

All dovetail , mortise & tenon ... no screws except mounting hardware for the handmade locks (& machine screw-stock for bails) .
The prior owner says they've got the missing bail parts in a plastic bag & will get them to me after they move ( yes , I know where they work  ;D ) .

Walnut veneer on -get this- clear pine  , with some walnut trim ; marble 'backsplash & shelf .

Drawers doved front & back , with the top 2 drawers sided in birch .

Good condition overall , with a few small dings & such .

Against my tightwad principles , I paid a C note for it .

Strange thing about this one is that the bottom panel (base panel) is also dovetailed in the frame .

Almost looks like a dry sink!  NICE!

The only thing I know about Furniture is what has passed here the past year.  However looks like a very wonderful deal to me, hats off to you.  That is more then I payed for my new Desk set by Saunders.  I vow no more new furniture for me, only Antique.

Stuck a piece of art glass (11 1/2" x 5 1/8") on it , with an ebony box on the shelf .

I hope the glass survives the cat ( even though there's earthquake wax ) & her nocturnal forays .

Talesof , I don't think that's gonna happen ....

Mrs. RJ2 #1 & Mrs. RJ2 #2 used to do that with extreme & considerable abandon .

Once again , I still feel that I got the best end of the deal , since I wound up tattered , but single , at the end of both 'contracts' .

 ;D ;D ;D
