Chinese antique elephant statue with Hong Kong OAI on bottom
« on: December 17, 2009, 07:54:19 pm »
My grandmother used to have and which is in my possession now an antique elephant statue about 3 feet tall by 3 feet wide and weighs about 50-60 pounds. It's mostly green but on top it is flat and white. The only thing written on the bottom is "Hong Kong O.A.I." I am trying to see if it is worth anything because my grandparents had an interior decorator travel the world picking things out for their house back in the 60's. If need be I can email someone a picture if they think they can help me decide if it is nice and worth something. If not I will find a local appraiser i guess. It is a little dusty so sorry for that in the picture attached. Thank you and any information is helpful.

Can't tell you much here , as I'm no ceramic elephant expert .

Your item appears to me to be a home-decor type of thing , perhaps intended for a display or plant-stand .

Agree about the plant stand.  Do not believe it is an antique (over 100 years old).

If you want to do more research this is an excellent resource http://orientalceramics.org.hk/about.htm
