Tobacco related items are good property.  Vintage or antique ashtrays and lighters are popular.  I'm guessing but I'd say your cigarette holder is from the 1950's.   ???

I'm betting late 40's, very early 50's as well.  If in tip-top shape $45- $50+.  railman got it right - tobacco memorabilia aka Tobacciana is highly collectible.

Cigarette dispensers come in two types - Mechanical and Static.  Mechanical has a moving part of some type (yours could be considered that due to it has an opening).  Static is just an open dispenser with no moving parts.

Just to show you some dispensers

Sorry to butt in Per say (LOL),  What makes this a Cigarette holder, and not say a pen and pencil holder.  Guess I have to play the devil advocate, but when I first saw this It really looked to be a desk top pen and pencil holder to me.  Just curious as to what make it a cig. holder.

It's kinda like a stash box/humidor , ironlord .

A person would fill up the hollow cylinder with ciggie-butts & the cover would retract so you could get @ 'em .

LOL in the day that is what I would of used it for a "Stash Box"  ;).  I did fail to see the retractable lid, now the light has shined in through my ears.

It seems to have cigarette ash markings inside of it. A friend of mine actually gave this to me and told me that it was for storing cigarettes. The length of the inside seems about the right size for holding them as well. It is a retractable/mechanical lid that I can move manually by pressing on the metal ring that encompasses the globe.
