Need help identifing this clock please
« on: January 01, 2010, 03:12:45 pm »
Hi, I was wondering if members here might know anything about this clock. it says Waterbury Clock Co on the back. my mom got it from a little sweet elder lady who's house she cleaned. The lady told her it was over a 100 yrs old and this was back in mid 80's. I would appreciate any info/value.

Much closer, but this one has numbers unlike yours which has the Roman numerals.

Would this be considered a carriage Clock?

Yes it is a carriage clock, but I think to positively identify it, we need to see a photo with the handle lifted upright. The link below has all the Waterbury carriage clocks complete with photos, but there are so many (about 12 pages with about 50 clocks per page) that the differences are very minute. I see several like yours but can't quite tell without seeing the shape of the handle.

I think it is this one from the page above, but unfortunately, it is one of the ones that has no further identifying info, other than being on the carriage clock page!  :-\ Whole lotta good that does us!

This page gives a list of Waterbury model names, but you have to go through them one by one to see photos of what type of clock they are.

I found the clock but offered no info or price unless I pay a membership and I can't afford that. here is a pic of the handle on mine.
Thanks,
steve

The signifigance of roman numerals, on a clock face often indicates & older clock. note the fact the six (6) O'clock position is up side down. I would suggest the clocks value is in the $225.00 to $300.00 Dollar range.

What does an upside down roman numeral six signify?  I have a new 'made in China' battery operated desk clock with that upside down roman numeral six.  Do antique faces have the six rightside up?

I too have a 1970's Tempus Fugit wall clock that I inherited from my mother-in-law, with the upside-down six. Thanks for the great info D&B, I'll be looking for that on clock faces from here on out!
