Oak Armoire
« on: January 06, 2010, 12:46:14 pm »
Hello, I have an armoire that i was told is around 125yrs old.  It is oak, it comes apart in panels. It has 1 mirrored door and 2 smaller mirrored panels.also 2 drawers. I have tried to do research on it but dont really know where else to look... Thank you for any info anyone might have on it. Thanks

Can you please pull out a drawer and take a picture of the side of it and post it?

I think the Drawer Construction will support our belief.

The golden age of oak was about 1890 to 1920. this one is Tiger Oak. what surprised me were the Dove tail's there English. It a Chifferobe not and Amoire it should sell in the 2,000.00 Dollars.

Circa 1890 to 1910.

"Tiger" means like "tiger stripes", the grain of the wood is "stripey" looking. There is also Tiger maple and Tiger cherry, but the correct name for all of them is "quarter sawn" wood. And it is more expensive than "slab sawed" wood.

To wit: Tiger Oak

To wit: how it is sawed
