Wall sconces/light fixture
« on: January 06, 2010, 04:24:25 pm »
I have one more for you all, if you would be so inclined:)

We've had these light fixtures in the home since we bought it, however the house has been here since 1869, so I have no idea how long they've been around. Any info./ideas on these? I'm thinking Art Deco era, but I could be way off on that. Thanks

The first photo is very art deco.  Your second sconce would be better if lighter photo was taken while on the wall.  They're probably both deco dating in the 20's or 30's.

Agree with railman with art deco!  Look to be in nice shape!

yes art deco and if I am seeing correctly the second light is a ceiling light. The pattern on the sconce & ceiling light do match so you have a beautiful set of (I am assuming) 2 sconces & a ceiling light. The period termed "art deco" manifested itself roughly between the two world wars, or 1920 to 1939. So a home built in 1869 and from the look of your lights I would say they are not reproductions.  When did you purchase the house?? If they are not reproductions I would price the sconces starting at $300.00 each and the ceiling light around $400.00. probably one of the most beautiful representations of art deco lighting I have seen in years. If you knew the maker the price may even go higher.

yes (Wendy 177) you are correct- the second photo is of the ceiling light (looking up at it) Thanks for the input everyone! Is there someplace on the light I would look to find the manufacturer? Or somewhere online I could look? I am positive they are not repos. as the wiring itself is very old on them. We actually have 2 or 3 extra glass inserts as well- they were left with the house when we bought it in 2004.

I believe they are original also. As far as a maker I would search any metal flat area on the back sometimes they mark the glass but I could see no signs from your photo, I noticed a small L on the knob on the wall sconce this may be a clue I will do a little digging.  If you can find no makers mark I would first try to research any companies who produced art deco lighting in your area and try to find a match. Let us know what you find & I will do the same. Really beautiful pieces!!

jksk, you might want to sign up to this site  http://www.vintagelights.com/sold.html

I see they do have quite the collection including Lightolier and show not only current stock but also stock that has been sold.  Good luck!

WOW! I am very impressed! Thanks for the searching everyone!!! I'm such a novice at all this. I love to collect antiques, however I usually have no idea what kind of value they hold- I buy things I like, just for personal use in my home. I'll see what other treasures I can find! I'm not a huge fan of Art Deco and really didn't care for the light fixtures but my husband was dead set on keeping them- not only b/c he knew they held some monetary value, but b/c he liked them very much. I think I'm beginning to like them more now ;) Thanks everyone!
