*fanning herself vigorously* Thank-you KC, I'm much better now!

Nice vinaigrette... or is it actually something else?

Pardon a little topic hijacking, but here's my vinaigrette, I picked it up at a small antiques street fair in Santa Cruz for $50. I researched the hallmarks and it was made by Thomas Newbold in Birmingham England in 1824. I have no other history on it and I have no idea how it ended up in Santa Cruz, but I couldn't pass it up!

Thanks, it was a lot of fun to research. Once I knew who made it, I found an old city directory and found the location of Newbold's shop in the old Jeweler's Quarter in Birmingham. I wish I knew who owned it. There is a hard to read monogram on top "X to X" (Not sure of the initials) all I can tell is that it was once a gift, way back in 1824.  :)

Some things just seem out of place about the photo, as if its one of those photo sessions for dressup and pictures are taken of you that look like they are from the old period like early 20th and late 19th century.

some reason it just looks too modern even for the style of clothing to.

What about the 3 other people you see in the photo? Are they part of this staged set up also or is it a original background photo?
I still think it's the real deal but I'm not even close to being qualified to say for sure.

I have had a nack for pictures, I guess thats one of my good traits where I can tell a pictures age and what not, and I have seen pictures done like this on as an event or sold to tourist I would assume where they dress up in these outfits and the backgrounds and all would look old, it be black and white or brown and white color, giving off the presence it is old.

Thats the vibe I kind of get from that picture, the dresses look too modern like they are a replica, the ones in the background are actually the same way as well, due to the focus of the camera and how it blurs out in the background leads me to believe the bridge or what looks like could be a rail road going across water is actually just a background, the setting looks to be on a beach, the very front at the bottom looks like a sidewalk or something, not sure, I could be wrong about everything, but it looks too recent IMO.

The idea they give off so much color in a black and white photo leads me to believe its a B&W photo done recently at some event or tourist place.

I am no expert on frames either, but would guess the frame is from the 50s as well.

Really not sure Dean but My mother & father used to go to an anitques car show/swap meet & antique flea market all in one  and lots  of the car owners would all dress in the era appropriate to the car they owned.

like Wendy said with the hairstyles to, its another thing that just makes it look as if it was taken within the last 10 years.

But I could still be wrong about it, and if this is an actual photo from the 1920s, I be shocked at how similar todays women look to those in that photo.

You know, I'm starting to wonder about it now, too. I just can't tell. The frame is definitely old and fairly fragile, the wire and nails are really old. But I just can't tell with the picture. Maybe someone did take the picture within the last decade and put it in a cool old frame. If I figure out it's not old at all, I'll give the pic away and put a cool original picture in the frame. Thanks for the input guys!
