Sophie TMCO ballet art
« on: March 08, 2010, 11:56:15 am »
I have a ballet art in frame that belonged to an elderly lady who passed away a few years ago. The picture is about 6in by 7in without the frame. It has sophie TMCO in bottom right hand corner in black. Does anyone know what this painting is called or where I may get some information on it? I have the frame but it is packed away can find it if necessary

I have some of ballerinas in storage as well.  Popular in the early 1900s.

Turner Manufacturing Company located in Chicago (2315 Keeler Ave., Chicago, Illinois) commissioned many artists to do artwork, framed them and sold them.  In addition they sold decorative home accessories.
Turner Family/Company information http://www.dekoven.com/Turners.html

There should be an artists signature as well on it - so the artist may have been a Sophie or the print is named Sophie! However, they mass produced items that were sold in dime stores all over the US.  Was one of the largest producers of framed art.

I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!
