Welcome to the forum , leecassini .

Perhaps a place to start is to determine how much your friend expects to get for his item (so he won't want to put you in the hospital for not 'getting enough' for it) , since the sale of the item is the issue at hand .

It sounds like he may be in a rush to sell , as well ?

That's quite beautiful! Is there indication of the maker on the back or underneath? Any clues?

Welcome to the forum , leecassini  .

Nice little item .

Can't tell alot by your images on this one , as to some details :
Is the whole unit (frame & major elements) in solid condition , or is it kinda wobbley ?
What sort of wood is it made from ?
Looks like solid pieces & veneer as well , is this so ?

Perhaps you could look at the lock & hinges , if still intact , for makers' marks & such .

Excuse all the questions , but just fishin' for more info here . :)

Welcome leecassini!

Like fancy, I am having a hard time determining info about your piece.

Unfortunately in my neck of the woods (west of where the piece is at) there are many pieces in this same style that are knockoffs from the Phillipines and other countries.  They are "crudely" carved compared to period pieces and the biggest give-aways to their origin is that the stain is inconsistent throughout the piece and the smell that the finish/oils emit.

Could you please post closeup pics and give a little more detail?

the unit is very sturdy I am not sure what kind of wood it is I will post some more detail pis later today. The top and bottom unit have paper tags that have beed romed to the piont of not being able to get any info. somebody has marked the back of the 2 drawers with db1 and db2 and the unit has db mark in it as well. the lock and hinges have no markings the skeleton has a swivel handel and looks to be made of brass.
