Working on another piece of Glass, want to help?
« on: April 07, 2010, 11:30:13 pm »
Just dug this one out of one of my boxes.  I started to look around and thought I would see what you guys can come up with for me.  I know it is called a Bud vase, and sure looks and I kind of hope it is a fenton.  This is as far as I've gotton.  It has a wonderful blue that I have seen in some of the fenton ones on ebay, sure is a lot of them and all seem to be a bit different.  I didn't notice any with the exact style of base yet, but am going to go look again later.  Just thought I would see if someone can give me a bone, I do trade for Cheese.

Sure looks like the pattern I have.  The first one states it is a fenton , the one at Rubylane, the one on ebay says unknown.  Starting to look fenton to me.  Thanks Sapphire, I need to look a bit more to be sure before I list it as a fenton.

You are and honest man Iron lord. the quality of the glass does'nt  look fenton quality.I suspect if it is. it's due to the fact it's "Newer'' glass.

It has no Fenton marks, so if it is fenton would not be new.  I did find a couple more online they called Thumbnail Design, some claim Fenton other don't.  Just see so many of these and I'm some other companies have made them too.  Just want to not only be honest to the buyer, but too myself and you folks as well.  It is way easy to conviece one self that something is something that is may not necessary be, though it sounds better  ::)

The one on ebay doesn't look straight. It looks like it's leaning.

ironlord I do not believe this was produced by Fenton this color is not referenced in works from 1907-1939 that I can find , new fenton does produce robins egg blue & blue lagoon  that match yours but searching current inventory this vase shape is not one they make and as you said if new it would be marked. I can tell you the one from Ruby lane marked black thumbprint is not Fentons black, in past & present Fentons black is BLACK. This vase is from a diffrent company as I can find no reference to its shape past or present. will start to search diffrent companies & see what I can find.

Thanks Wendy for all your help.  I most likely will attempt to post this on the weekend.  I just might add Fenton style to the description but not the tag.  Does seem that everyone calls any of these Fenton, sure makes me wonder  ???

Wendy I see what you mean about Fenton's black being BLACK.

Here is one on Worthpoint that still bears the Fenton label. The picture quality
isn't the greatest, but it is definitely black.  Unlike the one in the first link on
Rubylane, which almost has an iridescent appearance.

Another notation, the footing of your vase isn't smooth (ridged) and Fentons are!
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Yup sapphire (worthpoint) black as black can get! that one I would buy( I would buy yours also ironlord just not if someone was selling it as Fenton) black as black as KC said smooth footing ,documented shape with label -time line of shape & color being produced. Ironlord  so true anyone who has a bud vase unmarked seems to say it is Fenton and as you know with glass it is a very tricky thing to place unmarked glass with a maker. Still hunting on this maker ;)

Ironlord, I have to say that I am leaning towards a possible fenton piece. The color and and design looks like a colonial blue thumbprint bud vase, made in the mid 60's. As i have stated before, fenton didnt start stamping their pieces until the mid 70's which could explain why your piece isnt marked. As for fenton having smooth bottoms, that is ususally the case, but not always. There are some patterns that are not smooth on the bottom, and from what i have seen with some research is that the thunbprint pattern can have the same bottom as your piece. Keep doing some more research.

I found this piece in a reference guide I have. It is a thumbprint goblet in pink but it has the same bottom as yours. They would have been made about the same time period. 1962-1968
