New to collecting, my first buy.
« on: April 18, 2010, 01:00:13 am »
Hello, everyone I always loved viewing collectibles and antiques but had never moved into buying. Well, today i went to the thrift store and following the advice of cheap and well marked I picked up this piece. It's a Pennsbury Pottery piece. They were a Pennsylvania company from 1951-1971. I found quite a bit of listings on the net, but could not find any mention of this particular piece. The mark is Pennsbury Pottery 1029 D. Whatever the value, I think it may have been a great way to spend my first dollar twenty-five as a collector. Thanks!

Wow, I love it. While I can't offer much advice, I just wanted to say it was a great item for what you paid. I don't have any experience with ceramics, pottery, glass etc. Wish I could find cool ones like that at my thrift stores. Good luck collecting and I hope someone on here can find some great info for you!

Welcome to the forum, and even more welcome to the would of Treasure Hunting Teej9. Pretty nice vintage plate you have,  I would of bought that for a little over a buck for sure.  I did find some of these at replacements.com, One pattern called boy and Girl I suspect could be your, but not pic was available.  How big is the plate?  biggest tip I will offer to you today, I with pottery, Glass, and Dinnerware. Condition is most important.  I have discoved the most picky buyer is the glass and Dinnerware, even a small chip can make it almost worthless.  Once again Welcome to the Forum, look forward to seeing more of your treasures, and I promise you will learn alot here.

Nice Piece.  Welcome to the wild and crazy forum....and the world of collecting.

There is a book out on Pennsbury Pottery by Lucille Henzke if you choose to pursue collecting more.  I do feel that these items will gain in value over time.

Nice piece.

Again, welcome.

Thanks for all of the welcoming posts. I have to say, finding something on my first venture was really exciting. In reference to the earlier post, it is actually in great shape. There are no chips and all of the paint is in great condition. It's a 9" dinner plate. After looking on replacements.com It looks the most like the harvest or the folk art groupings they have. Thanks again!
