« on: May 25, 2010, 07:49:17 am »
My grandfather bought this piece in Italy a long time ago, it just now came into my posession. Can anyone too me a bit about it? Or a possible valuable? It looks to be in ecellent condition.

Very interesting piece you have there.  Any background...as to the age of it?

Oops, wow I was tired when I made that and just now noticed all of my spelling mistakes haha. Anyways, unfortutunately, I do not know very much about it.... My dad said he believes my grandfather picked it up in Italy in the 1960's... But not sure if it was bought new, or used at that point. Would there be anything special I should try taking pictures of that you would like to see in more detail, that may help to date it? Thanks.

If no one here knows much about it here, does anyone know of any capodimonte websites where I can find some more info about this piece? thanks.

I think I may have found one very similar to yours, unfortunately no more info was given with it. It appears yours may be missing the lid.

Here are the images which don't appear in the write-up. (Will keep checking around for you  ;))

Came across a lamp with similar look as yours on ebay. Don't know how people are dating these articles.....appear s the Capodimonte 'name' more often refers to the style or reproduction. No view of the mark is shown.

The date they give for this lamp is Post 1940.

Personally I would have to say that if it 'states' Capodimonte it's not an original, rather a reproduction using a similar mark of the crown and 'N'.  From what I have run across, the higher priced items with specific descriptions show only the crown/N mark from various periods.

I personally can't tell if yours is an older one....but there are many "copy cats" of the original capodimonte style.

I love the information on this site - it states that they are still making them

Some things require a hands on feel as well.

Thanks a lot to you who have replied! I guess I should have someone look at this in person before I try to sell  it (because its possible it is missing a top)... Its not the exact same as the pictures you have posted; and my grandfather never mentioned a top, but it is possible I am missing one  :( I really don't know to be honest.... But the fact you have posted similar products which have tops leaves me in doubt... And I don't want to go to an auction or post on ebay with an untruthful ad.

Anyone here from Atlanta? I will be happy to pay you to look at it for me (as well as a few other antiques I have).

Thanks again.

blazin98 why don't you send an enquiry to the site KC posted.  On their Info page they do mention contacting them with any questions.

Quite the interesting history on that page, as well as some description of capodimonte. All their contact info is there too.

Interesting coincidence! I was doing a bit of research on a set of capodimonte plates earlier today! Anyway, my best guess is that the vase is from the late 19th century (what does everyone else think?).

Aha! I found a site with Capodimonte backstamps, although they are missing 1840-1924:

http://www.onlinecollectibles.com/faq/capodimonte2.htm

Seeing as your mark is not one pictured, I will again venture a guess at late 19th century.

The vase I supplied the link to above was also marked with the number 1632/4.  I found the auction result ...... expected $100 - 150, actual sale $80.  No further info re: date, etc supplied

http://www.ogallerie.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi (enter capodimonte in Search bar, sixth from last on results page, shows mark on base)

Will still keep an eye out.  ;)
