Antique Picture Frames

Can anyone give me an idea of what these frames are called, the era, the value? anything about them, they seem to be handmade, holds 5x7 pictures, pictures don't go with them, one has leg on back, the other one is missing.

Now these are really, really cool. Someone was very creative! Or maybe they were factory made. If you were to sell these, I can see someone with a rustic cabin or late victorian era home snatching them up. I'm not quite sure how to date them but they appear really art deco (1910-1940ish). Hopefully someone else can give more info than I can!

They almost look like they're simulating Quills .

Commonly called "Twig Easels" .

In older times , they were catagorized as "Cabin Art" .

Very nice picture frames, honey1432.  I have 3 twig plant stands and one is very similarly decorated with the gold paint.  It must have been a style years ago.  I would guess in the 1910-1920 era.  I think most were homemade or traveling craftsman made.  The plant stands run $15-$65 in my area of the Midwest depending on fanciness.  I would think your matched set of picture frames would be in the $100+ range for the pair because they are so nice.  Just a guess.

These are very intriguing and seem to be in excellent shape!

This form of decoration actually became popular from around 1880 to early 1900's.  The fear that the wilderness was disappearing helped  start a new form of naturalist folk art works.  Especially in furniture.  This is when the national parks and large lodges/inns became popular - getting back to the "natural" way of life.

This became popular again in the 1960's and is still popular.

Those are neat! They would work well with so many decor styles- Victorian, rustic cabin, even Asian. Very cool!

Whenever someone mentions twigs, limbs and furniture the name Adirondack Furniture comes to mind, and one should keep their eyes open for it. Who knows, maybe your picture frames are of that vintage, to wit:
