Bad Schwalbach Glass

My family has a glass mug with "Bad Schwalbach" written on it, along with some type of birds. There is a round piece of porcelain with a number stamped on it. My great-aunt told a cousin that this was a glass given to an ancestor when they immigrated to the United States.

Has anyone heard of this type of thing? I would love to be able to track it down, possibly even the number and what it meant.

becky would love to help! but a picture is the only hope? you see' the name is german it's telling us where it was made. not how old or by who?

Bad Schwalbach is a city in the Hessian (Rheingau-Taunus) area of Germany. The prefix 'Bad' means it is a spa. 'Schwalbach' is a name derivated from 'Schwalbe' (swallow) and 'Bach' (stream / brook). So the glass mug is what you today would call a 'tourist item' as these items could only be bought in the respective towns. Some versions however were only given away as presents to families (e.g. through the mayor). Especially in small towns it was a custom to present such items to families that were emigrating.

I have no idea how old it is or by whom it was produced (glass products are not my hobby), but the above info might help a little in your quest :-)
