Vilbo Card
« on: August 01, 2010, 09:22:54 pm »
Can anyone tell me anything about porcelain Vilbo greeting cards?  The box says "Villeroy & Boch" and says it was manufactured in West Germany.  Are these collectible?  If so, what am I looking at in regard to value?  I bought it for 3 dollars because it was unusual, I had never seen one before.  Thanks!

V&B is a well known German company that is most famous in antique circles for its Mettlach steins which can range from plain advertising mugs (like Hires Root Beer) to elaborate steins with beautiful colors.   They are still in business and make a wide range of dinnerware and decorative items.   They have a website.

I've seen these cards going for $10 a piece.    I know much more about the antique steins, but I can say that the fact they were made in W. Germany dates them to that between WWII and W. German liberation.    I'm sure they are collectible and if they were mine, I'd hold onto them for years until they go up in value.
