Trogon Ware Vase
« on: August 10, 2010, 06:10:40 pm »
Hi, I am interested in finding out about this vase. It is a family antique (or should that be that it's been in the family for a while).

It is 21 cm high and the bottom has "Trogon Ware- made in England- T.F & S.Ltd" also it has the name R Dean on the side of the vase in raised print.

It has the bird on one side and flowers on the other side, any help appreciated. Tim.

I have tried googling "trogon ware" and I have looked on ebay, but haven't found any info that seems to match this vase. Not sure how to go about finding out information on this vase.

Welcome to the forum fishberley! Just on a quick search here, would this be the same pattern as your vase?

Apparently Trogons are a family of 39 species of bird.....

Some date marks for Thomas Forester & Sons.....

Thanks for the reply. That's some very interesting information (I must not be a very good googler to miss all that info, but I suppose it helps to know what to look for) This is the picture of the bottom of the vase, and it seems to match the earlier productions by the looks ??? Is there a way to value this, that auction site didn't seem to list prices.

Sorry, I'd have to leave the value aspect up to others. Not qualified to answer that but definitely will be watching to see what you get in response.   ;)

Interestingly enough...there is another company in Burslem, Staffordshire that used TF&S........T Ford & Sons!  No visual mark available!

Hi, the only other markings that I can see is the "R Dean" signature on the side.
The colors on this vase are really vibrant and beautiful, it would be nice to work out its history and value.

Hi, Does the lack of current information mean this is a rare vase ??? or just not popular compared to all the other antique pottery available.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this vase.

I am getting very curious about the history and value of my little treasure.

Tim.

Unfortunately it doesn't mean that at all fishberley.

It may mean that people don't think it is of $$ value so they don't list it in a public place.

I found many older listings on this item but no values!

You may find your vase has better value in the UK, Canada or Australia, I am rarely able to sell english art pottery to US buyers.  I think this may be why you're having a hard time finding a lot of information.  Try looking for some info on some of the UK antique pottery sites, looking for "slip glazed pottery" by T Forester & Sons.
