Floor Lamp - Advance Parcholite
« on: August 14, 2010, 02:09:06 pm »
My grandmother gave me this floor lamp and mentioned that it belonged to her grandparents since the 1930's. It's all original right down to the old fashioned plug. The lamp pole seems to be made entirely of wood and is painted gold throughout.

The only writing that I could find is on the bottom and it reads "Advance Parcholite A-3." Based on this I found the original patent date for the light fixture (filed July 6, 1925 & registered July 12, 1927).

Any value or more information about this lamp is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

A very nice looking lamp but I would not plug this in until the cord and wiring checks out.  With material wrapped cord it is hard to determine what shape the insulation is in and there may be cracks/bare spots that are not visible due to the covering.

Someone may be able to help you on further info.

Thanks and I agree 100% about having the wiring checked!

Agree with D&B and wayward. The shade is in beautiful condition and is definitely worth more than the lamp.  The lamp alone, in that shape would be about $150 in my area (Washington State). That shade though...at least $200.
Back then, many of the shades burned. I believe it was because of the faulty wiring catching fire. Or hot light bulbs? ???
Definitely not safe by today's standards. I'd have the wiring checked out. To be safe, I'd have it replaced for peace of mind. Keep the original though, at least I would. But that's just me. Great lamp!

Agree, your lamp shade set is worth $350 - $450 as a whole in my area.
