Old Lady Figurine
« on: August 15, 2010, 07:39:53 am »
I would like to find out some information regarding this figurine.  It has been in our family for about 60 years.  My grandmother's friend purchased it for her at an auction house in Delray Beach, Florida in 1951 or 1952.  We hired an appraiser to learn more but she was unable to help us.  I have looked on the internet to see if I could get any information on the marking but was unable to find anything.  As you can see it's a gorgeous piece with exquisite detail.  Hope someone can help.  Thanks!

P.S.  I just found this on the internet.  When comparing it to our piece, it looks like a replica.  Doesn't have the same marking on the bottom and doesn't have the same fine detail.

wendy those crossed arrows/swords are ringing a bell......I know we've already had them here. There are other's more familiar with the marks but let me take a boo to see if I can drag up what I found before. You'll notice the mark in the link you provided, the two leaves.....they have the same two slashes through the center that you see on the arrows/swords on yours.

Be back  :)

I was thinking Meissen (they have a crossed swords mark) but also came across this bit.....

http://www.figurines-sculpture.com/porcelain-figurine-french-with-two-arrows-crossed.html

"OK, that said, lets get on with the crossed arrows porcelain mark debate.

The particular mark you show does have associations with Parisian maker Bourdois & Bloch / Achille Bloch, but without seeing the item, it is impossible to say whether it is a likely fake or not. There were various cheap importers from post war Japan who messed around with faking these types of marks. One such Japanese company was Arnart who made a wide range of figurine look-alikes and tableware tea sets etc etc. They used various types of European looking marks including the Paris crossed arrows and the Vienna shield (beehive)."

Scroll down to crossed arrows so see if any match

Also Kalk used crossed arrows, but that too was 'borrowed'

Not giving you much insight here into your 'lady'.   Likely you'll get more replies as the weekend winds down and other members pop in.

Wow, thanks so much!  I think the marking looks more like a wish bone?
