Brass mini tripod tables with drop leaf
« on: August 19, 2010, 04:21:48 am »
Hi
I am trying to identify this type of brass table. The largest stands about 18cm tall, all are brass and I have several pairs plus some singles. What are they called and did they have a use?!
Thanks

Here's another. Not quite the same but same idea. Guess the fancy miniature ones were popular in the late 1800's. Hopefully someone else can give more info! Welcome to the forum, by the way.  :P

Are you able to post more pics, maybe of the underside and the back?

Hi and thanks for the feedback. Here is another photo of the collection. The largest is 30cm high and smallest 8cm. There are 4 pairs, only some of which have the chess top.

Thanks

Wow, those are pretty cool!
I have no idea what the little tiny 3 inch ones would be for. These are smaller than I imagined. Dollhouses? Maybe the bigger table was for bigger dolls and the little ones were for inside doll houses. Anybody else have ideas?

I'm finding lots of tiny chess tables on ebay and they are all dollhouse furniture. None are the flip-top tables like yours but the ones I see can get pretty fancy. My best guess is dollhouse tables. Can't think of any other use for them. I can't tell their age. Where did you get them and how long have you had them, if I may ask? I'd imagine these would be worth a good amount of money if they were actually antique rather than more modern. Even if yours are modern, yours are much more unique and higher quality than these on ebay.

If yours are newer, I'd say $50 each. The fancy wood ones on ebay are about $30, I'd imagine brass being more. Antique though...who knows? Probably $75 each, maybe more. ???  Maybe these guys could help.

Hi
Thanks for persevering! I think mine are probably quite old - my step dad was a dealer and he gave them to my mum about 30 years  ago. I think they are too big for dolls house furniture and are more ornamental than functional. They are also pretty weighty, so don't lend themselves to a dolls house.
Curious! You definitely don't see many about, hence the search. The mini chess table at the Australian antique outlet was just like mine.

Thanks
