cup and plate from japan
« on: September 25, 2010, 09:56:03 am »
I purchased this over 15 years ago from a lady in West Covina and her husband gave them to her 20 years ago, so it's at least 35 years or more old. I did not question her nor him on where he had got them. They are in 14 carat gold trim and the plate has in linings of the gold trim, with yellow flowers and there is an exact little circle with gold on the plate where the cup is to be placed. and the cup's handle is part gold also, and on the bottom of each it has the letter 'G' and leaves circled around the letter and below that it says made in Japan, I just don't know whom had made this or is it real or what?

allypeez you have what is called a snack set The mark on your china was used by a Japanese company after WW II and through to the 1950's. Not a lot is known about the company.

Agree with the info wendy has provided.

You can still find these snack sets at garage sales/antique malls n shops all over the place.  still desirable.   Worth more if in a full set (for the parties that the ladies would have in the 30's through the 60's).

Nice pieces!
