Nippon Wallpocket
« on: September 25, 2010, 12:28:35 pm »
The wife went to an auction Thursday night and went wild, came home with 3 boxes of glass and pottery.

Included in all her goodies was this Handpainted Nippon wallpocket. It is 8 3/4" high and 6 1/2" wide.

She could not find it in her books or on the Web so she ask me to post pictures of it here in hopes of finding out when it was made, current value, etc.

Thanks much,

Sam

Nice & 'clean' wall pocket , cogar .

The mark appears to be a 1911-1921ish Noritake Morimura , to me .

Although many fakes of the Morimura marks were made , yours might just be an authentic one !

Sam sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your piece is a fake :( That's why your wife could not find it in any of her books. The wholesaler's catalog indicates the cost is $11.00/  I found it under the reproductions, fakes & fantasy pieces section in my -collector's encyclopedia of Nippon porcelain, sixth series by Joan F. Van Patten pg.140   It is also on www.nipponcollector sclub.com   if you go to the reproductions page scroll to the bottom and click on examples it is in the first row seventh down. I also love Nippon & Noritake but really have to know reproductions as Fancypants mentioned and the marks are faked so well you can not tell most pieces you just have to know the shape, style & if the pattern was ever put on a certain shape.
