1909 silver fighting/boxing monkey ID please

hi can some one ID this monkey please as i cant find any thing about it the hallmark dates from 1909 many thanks

Hi Jimmy!  I am sorry but I personally can't make out the hallmarks....are they right side up or upside down?

Can you describe them as well?  New pic?

hi It's difficult to photograph but the 3 'squares' have an anchor, a lion and a letter 'K'
the squares have the corners chopped off and the bottom has a sqiggle so looks a
bit like an upside down shield.

Jimmy, are you able to take a closeup or a pic at higher resolution.  The one that is posted does not allow the image to be enlarged without it becoming pixilated.  A good, clear, sharp image of the hallmarks would be helpful.

The anchor represents Birmingham England
The lion represents the silver content is means sterling .925
The K is the date mark (the style of the K is very important here)
There should be another mark for the maker

Love this little guy! So much personality! I wonder if he was the insignia for some kind of club or organization? Does he suspend form the "loop" on the back so that he can be worn like a pendant? Maybe as a slide on a double lanyard? I'm thinking a slide because of the middle positioning on this loop.

I'm afraid I don't have a referral, but maybe someone else here will.

One thing I did find in looking for info on this was that in the Victorian era they used to hold dog and monkey fights, much like cock fights or pit bull fights, where people would bet on one or the other. I wonder if this could have had something to do with those types of fights? Perhaps worn so that they knew who was rooting for the monkey?

Also the lanyard ties are called "Bolo ties", that may be helpful in finding information.

Hi Jimmy,

It is difficult to tell from the angle of the photograph, but could it be a climbing monkey and not a fighting monkey? is there a place for two lengths of 'twine' to be threaded through? I seem to have a vague recollection of seeing just such silver 'climbing' figures that were probably used on cots, or for older children's toys. Or I could be way off the mark here!

Just for grins.....can the monkey be propped on the edge/lip of a serving dish or tea cup and the other end hold a spoon?
