1950's Blenko or reproduction?
« on: November 14, 2010, 12:58:37 pm »
While reading up on Blenko this AM, I discovered I may already have some!!  This pitcher was given to my husband by his Mom.  From what I have read it has the characteristics of Blenko.  The opening is not perfectly circular and there seems to be some tool marks (?) around the base of the neck. However the pontil is polished (maybe unusual for Blenko?).  I found the possible designer and year.

What bothers me is I haven’t seen this pitcher 2-toned and this one is almost too light in color in the middle for Blenko. That said, I have never seen a piece of Blenko in person so I can only judge by internet pics.  Considering that there is so much mis-ID’s Blenko out there I thought I would ask for your opinion before I put it back on the shelf.

Thanks in advance!

Oceans, came across this one.

Although as you say the color doesn't seem dark enough in the middle, in both the main color seems to dissipate when it reaches the bottom of the handle.

Gonna see if I can come cross your style now  ;)

OMGosh Sapphire!!  Thank you.  I googled and googled but didn't think to go directly there.  Perfect. I can call it Blenko guilt free (as long as the auctioneer was right  lol)

Thanks again!

Oceans  beautiful piece of Blenko right on Sapphire!!!  Blenko did many pieces with this light middle, In tangerine & Lemon. Some turquoise shaded also but top to bottom along with Tangerine. Value on your piece I would say over $60.00

Thank you everyone. Bookmarked the sites...  I fell in love after seeing Blenko on the net awhile back.  Imagine my surprise to discover we have some!  MIL loves everything that's pretty and vintage so I figured this didn't come from Pier One  ;D

Now that I have tangerine... I think I need some blue & green... and probably red.

I need to write Santa... Or maybe just ask to win the lottery! ;D

ETA: Check out this house about half way down.  I am wiping away tears... http://www.blenkoglass.com/collectors.html#
