Anyone know what this is?
« on: November 22, 2010, 09:03:38 pm »
I found this at Goodwill and I have tried to find out what it is but I have not been able to. It looks old but I don't know for sure. There are no markings on it anywhere. Here are pics of the front, back, and inside. It measures 3 1/2" at wides point and it's 1 1/2" tall. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Came across this.......hope it sheds a bit of light for you.  Pretty hard to date as likely they have been made for quite some time and continue to be in some areas, particularly the touristy parts.

Hi!  Sapphire gave some great information.  These are called tinket boxes as well as coin purses.  They were very prevalent in seaside stores from the 50's onward....up to present time.  Like Sapphire said, this would be very hard to date without any marks, etc.
