Selling on ebay !!
« on: January 14, 2011, 11:15:31 am »
Does it irritate anyone else but me when you sell something on ebay and you never get a response from the buyer ?  They pay well and quickly but I make it a habit to always email them and say "Thank you for purchasing from me" . I do have it in instructions to email me just to verify the sale? I think it a simple rule of manners to always acknowledge people !!    Am I wrong ???

As long as I am paid, I do not worry too much about a response from the buyer.  I also look at what they have to say in feedback they leave.  Sometimes buyers are inundated with emails (especially buyers that purchase many items) and do not take time to read or reply to ones they consider superfluous.  I think they consider the sale is verified when they pay.

I treat it as going shopping...you go to the store, pay for the item and go home.  You normally don't call the store back up and say how happy you are but you do call if there was a problem.

Some selling sites try to make the whole buying/selling thing more of a social experience and some people are just not into that.  Be happy you sold it, be happy you got paid, and be happy positive feedback was left.  Don't worry or be irritated, Be happy.  ;D

I do the same also Mart trying go a little above and beyond a computer generated correspondence from eBay but rarely do I get,nor do I really expect a response. When I do receive one it is always a pretty freindly exchange and it's never bitten me in the a-- yet but there are those who seem to be like instant freinds and that makes doing business on eBay all the more rewarding.

After spending a few hours on eBay's sellers central I was kind of surprised at how many very experienced sellers said to not communicate with your buyers any more than necessary, especially due to the fact that communication is one of the DRS rating that you are judged on.

Just seems to me that some the most memorable experiences I've had on eBay were because of extraordinarily nice people who sometimes shared a common interest.

I totally see Wayward's logic and maybe it rings true for the majority of buyers but if I can make a few freinds along the way my logic is why not?

If I buy then I always e-mail the seller (if they are small, and not in stature) to let them know when I've received it and to give any other feedback that the ebay system doesn't allow for. When I sell I always e-mail to say thanks for buying and if the payment wasn't instant then I'll tell them when I can post if the payment is received by ...., I then e-mail to say that I've sent it and I always put a hand written note in with it. It doesn't take that much extra time and it seems to keep the buyers happy. I don't expect the same service, from others, that I provide, so if I get it, then that is a bonus, and so I'm with Wayward on that point. But I have had some very friendly exchanges as a result, so I'm with Dean there.  ;D

I think its just my southern (Texas) upbringing that makes it get on my nerves. It doesn`t happen often, thank goodness.  I have a lot of repeat customers because I try to treat them as I would like to be treated. And I appreciate their business.  And like Dean, I have made a few  friends along the way which makes ebay even more enjoyable for me.  Bad manners is a pet peeve of mine.   Its just so easy to be nice, I can`t figure out why more people don`t try it !!
One thing I have found is that the ones that just don`t bother to email after a sale are the ones that usually don`t bother leaving feedback.

I use feedback left to communicate when I received the item; I am pleased with packing, shipping and the item itself; and grade the seller on the whole deal - accurate description or condition.  I used to email sellers/buyers directly in the old eBay but the new eBay has unpersonalized everything contrary to what eBay would have you believe.

I also email sellers on some inaccurate and in some case illegal (mounted hawks/owls) listings.  Some are grateful and some you never hear from.  I just cannot believe how little homework some sellers do on their offerings.  Either they are grossly uninformed or they think their buyers are clueless.
