The word inscribed in your bowl is "chartreuse". It is a shade of green !! Could be as simple as a fruit or salad bowl !!

I'm thinking your piece may be something promotional......fo r Chartreuse liqueur

http://www.fotopedia.com/wiki/Chartreuse_(liqueur)

As to material and age,  I really can't help there.

Shoot........will try to find that pic somewhere else

You beat me to it, Sapphire. All the years, in my youth, spent working behind bars  for extra cash ... I can still recall those shelves of bottles, many not so fashionable nowadays, like Chartreuse. It could have been a souvenir piece from the monastery, perhaps.

Good work sapphire and mario!  If this is an advertising piece or a souvenir, it should be worth some $.

Cointreau ..... Curacao ...   Tia Maria ... Bols .... Pimms ....De Kuyper  ....Grand Marnier ...  Who drinks them now?

I don't think it would be a promo piece, these would normally have been small dishes for nuts, ashrays, water jugs, lamps and so on. This looks too 'crude' pardon the expression, probably not the right expression .... not something  you'd probably find upon a bar counter.

I'm still thinking it might have been a souvenir piece... We were in Voiron, a few years back, where they make the drink.... never made it to the monastery though.  :(
