porcelein - white floral statue
« on: May 29, 2004, 02:41:34 pm »
I have an all white floral statue about 18" high or so with the "Bayreuth" insignia on the bottom (a "C" with a "B" in the center) and "Italy 7004". It looks very much like a Capodimonte piece. I have been trying to locate information on it, but haven't found anything. Do you have any ideas of where I can look? Or???
thanks for your help

   Sorry, I'm confused.  Bayreuth is Germany and Italy is, well Italy.  I am not aware of the mark you state as Bayreuth, but since I am not an expert, may I refer you to Christopher-Simon Marshall?  He is an internationally recognized expert on German pottery marks, and honestly, not too shabby on other items as well.

His new site is:  http://www.porcelainmarksandmore.firmitas.de

Chris is willing to accept e-mail inquiries on his site, and if need be, help you post your pics.

There is precedent for German porcelain makers to emulate the gorgeous Capodimonte pieces.  They are lovely to own.  Best Wishes,  KB
