Old Horse Drawn Plow
« on: April 07, 2011, 07:22:36 am »
Hello Folks,

This is my first post - hope it goes well...

I have picked up an antique horse drawn plow and have identified it as a Single Handle Dutch Plow. These plows were common in the early 19th century in NY Hudson Valley. It has an iron plow blade and wooden stanchion (sp?).

Does anybody think that this thing has value? I paid $20 for it at a sale.

Thanks,

Lucky

Well, the Amish still use them and many people use them for yard decorations. $20 is a great price. I usually see them go for $75-100 at farm auctions if the wood is not rotted.

I am going to buy, buy, buy in Wisconsin and haul to Texas! That would be a good idea if gas was not what it is.  ;D

I often wonder why old farm equipment is so much higher here and you guys can pick it up for pennies and its in good shape !!  There is not much of it left here due to our weather. More humid and and the wood rots quicker I guess !!

I even see that style for rural type mailbox stands.

Very cool bit of history! Definitely worth $20. I think you should hitch the family dog to it and till the rosebeds, then see what the neighbors say!  ;)

If the family dog is a Chihuahua, it would serve better as a tie-out stake.  ;D
