Can anybody identify this 'German' gothic clock ??
« on: April 07, 2011, 03:45:22 pm »
We think it's German and it's been in our family for about 65 years, but nobody knows who made it, when it was made and where it came from.
Any ideas ?

Have you checked the mechanism for identifying marks?

Open the back and take a look see.

It looks in extremely good condition.

If you still can't find any info on it, then try this clock forum ... they will help you identify it, of that I'm sure. But they may need a photo of the inside, as the face doesn't give much away.

Good luck!

I took out that huge deleted image block. I have no idea where the picture went because I never did see it.

Yes sorry, the picture has disappeared because I had to resize it for the other forum. Here it is again relinked.

It has the number 69462 inside

Lovely clock- I think it looks like the face has been replaced with a new one and maybe the inner workings? I'm not a clock person, so I'll just watch the comments beyond that.

Hi Tales,
I know what you mean as it appears pristine ... but a good restoration will do that. It looks a very fine clock, but what is unusual is that there are no indications on the face or the interior as to who the makers were ... either of the clock or the case :-\

If it was restored/cleaned, is it possible there had been a paper label?

Quite possible, sapphire. Also, if the face had a complete lift then any vestiges of a name might not have been clear enough to copy. If you recall the New Haven clock I posted a while back, I was thinking of giving that a face lift, but decided against it, as the face held so much info, although becoming a little difficult to make out.
