Please help identify this lamp "VERY COOL"

I found this in the trash. It had gold paint on it. 5 1\2 wide and 11 higha magnet will not stick to it and it shines when buffed? It is heavy 4 to 5 pounds Very cool looking. Thanks,Dan

Your lamp seems like it is styled after French designs , if not actually French ;
perhaps the base is marble ?

fancypants, the idea crossed my mind as well....  However, would be interested to see where cord comes out at...no shown in pics.  Looks as if it comes out on back side of main body of lamp.

I know this isn't exactly your lamp but maybe this will help someone to guide you in the right direction. I found this while searching "lion leg lamp". Not sure what made me search that except for the fact that i thought the "legs" looked like lion legs.  Here is the website where i found the pic. Hope this helps

I am sorry that I really can't say for sure.  But it definitely looks like some I have seen from the mid 90's.

Although the style of the lamp is older the socket looks fairly recent and especially the cord (white, doubled). Unless it has been completely rewired I'd have to agree with KC but include mid to late 80's as well. Very hard to tell the material and finish on the metal part.

It had no cord and has been stripped of the gold paint.

  That renders the lamp virtually worthless but not useless. Are you sure it was gold paint and not a plated gold finish?

Been talking over this one with fancy; we don't know what components were painted gold & stripped off & other info.

Maybe this was a gold-gilded bronze lamp, rewired with modern electrics- if so, too bad about removing the 'paint' from it.
If you've got something that is bronze, we suggest you disassemble the unit & look for a signature on the metal, esp. around the i/s base area. You might also look for any misc. older parts within the assembly.

If the lamp is just a 'modern' repro that somebody gave the shabby-chic treatment, maybe you can just plug it in & enjoy it anyways .

Rudkin, if the base is marble then that accounts for ½ the weight. The cord usually comes out the bottom thru that all-thread pipe that holds all the pieces together. Without legs on the base the cord has to exit the side. The lamp socket screws onto that all-thread at the top and the nut on the bottom locks it all together. Remove the nut at the bottom to disassemble it. 

The all-thread looks quite new to me which implies the lamp is new. The white electrical cord implies new or at least re-wired.

The metal could be simply polished pot metal which can have a high amount of lead in it !! Accounts for part of the weight !!
