questions about my rocking chair
« on: June 08, 2011, 09:49:48 am »
Hey Guys! Just wondering if anyone has any info on how old this rocker might be and who made it. I can't find any markings on it. I have no info on it other than it was given to me over 35 yrs ago by a family friend and it sat in his basement for many years prior to giving it to me. Any info will be greatly appreciated!!! I would also like to know what the best way to restore the bottom would be?

It is a platform rocker and it appears to have been refinished at some point. That is all I know.

I know it hasn't been refinished in the last 35yrs....not sure about before that.

It was probably refinished before that improperly done jute twine seat was put on. Ugh.

Flip your rocker over and have a look at the springs, look very closely and you may see a patent date. I was able to date my rocker that way.

It may have had a rush seat and thats why they used jute to redo it !!  At least thats what it looks like !!
