Dragon Carving on a log

Hello everyone, I just bought this at an auction.  I know nothing about it.  I searched online and could not find anything similar.   This appears to be one solid piece of wood.  It is around 36" tall and I would say around 25 pounds, but I have not weighed it.  I could not find any markings on it.  Any ideas as to where it was made?  Age? And value?

Hello Piedmont, and welcome.

Dragon carvings, as you've probably now realised after all your Googling, are not rare. They can come from all over the World, and there has been a healthy trade in them from places like Bali as well as a lot of other Islands in Indonesia, and this looks (to me) as if it might come from that region, but could be wrong. With items like this, what normally adds $$ is age, and I'm not going to put my neck on the block on that score, although the brass work looks very modern.

Any idea what type of wood it is?

Some of the others know their woods, and I think Wayward is pretty hot on them, but it is sometimes difficult to identify some hard woods, especially when you've not got a good view of the grain. But someone might be able to have a guess from that first pic.

It is hard to tell the wood from those pics.  I think this is the door to a dragon's lair, thus the hinge. I only hope it swings both ways. I do not see a lot of wear where the dragon should have pushed it open coming or going so maybe it is not a door.

I'd agree with other posters who commented that yours is a fairly modern/current item ....

Will also guess that this was intended to be buddhist-themed (two dragons) .

Okay.....here is the thing that is bugging me.  The pic with the "partial" hinge on it looks flat.  However, from the other pics it appears the item is actually curved!

So, what would a curved door be to?  And, Piedmont states that it is 36" tall and weighs 25lbs!!!!  Definitely too heavy for a door with that flimsy of a hinge!  So...there must be some other purpose?

Well, it is actually an entire hinge, just in the folded position.  The wood is curved, and the hing (only half of the hinge) contours to the wood.  I'm not sure if the dragons bent the hinge before they screwed it on, or if screwing it on bent the hinge.

I think the hinge was only used to anchor the top to a wall so it did not fall over and hurt somebody. One of OSHA's regulations.
