Antique Tiger Statue?
« on: July 13, 2011, 09:24:57 pm »
I have this tiger statue I bought at an antique store some time back, and I am just curious about this history or age of it, anything really. Its in really good shape. On the bottom it ways that it was purchased in October 1971. It has a company name on it as well, but I cant recall what it was called as I'm not at home at the moment. If anyone has any info, I'd be more than happy to hear it. :)

Yet another one of those "van-on-the-street-corner" purchases from the 70s! -- oh, that era of shiny ceramic power-animals, black velvet Elvis, and cheap tapestries.  The van usually has a small round window on the side near the back, and the painting of a wizard, or a rock star, or a nightscape on it.

Curiouscollector Careful not to jump to quickly  ;)  as some of this type of work  (shiny ceramic)was done by very well known & famous artists for great porcelain houses --

Redwolf would need the company name to determine value

You really are on form, Wayward!

And I assume all the Tony references suggest that you have Frosties over there?  That takes me back!

Okay...my sides are hurting from laughing!!!

Can you please do a rubbing of the name on the bottom if it is raised or incised?  Give it a good try....IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN VALUE!

Mario, Frosted Flakes are GGGGRRREEEEEEAT! I do not eat them anymore because they are frosted with loads of sugar. They were good as a kid because you could burn off that sugar high...now, not so much.

That "Made in Italy" "1391" marking is the same as the one in the etsy link.

Mart, believe this or not, but I am almost burned out on garage sales and I do not think even sugar will help me. I have seen so-o-o-o-o much mediocre junk at such ridiculous prices the past few weeks, I think I need some time off to let my brain decompress.  I would go to auctions but the prices are worse and the time wasted much greater.   :-\

That it is. Whats the date for though (1391)? The statues are in too good a shape to have been made way back then, so thats never been an option. Meier and Frank didnt start till the late 1800's.

The number is more than likely a style or model number. It is not a date (year).

The price has not really increased from the time it was purchased in 1971 for $60 to today where a pair is $125 and remains unsold after being offered for more than 30 days. I think the actual value has decreased to some price point below $60.
