Old Rocking Horse

Hi 
I have an old rocking horse(or something similair, look at picture).
It is over 100 years old, but does someone know the value of this?

It looks like a child's pull toy. Is that gold or just a bad photo of a white horse?

I have not found one yet that stylistically resembles your horse...fat rear, arched skinny neck, stiff front legs. Is this a carved wood horse, hide covered, leather saddle, solid wheels, rectangular wood platform, etc.?

Depending on what he is made of, condition, and if all original, I would ball park it in the neighborhood of $1000 at least.

That's OK. I cannot tell if that is cowhide or not. Looks like it on the lower rear leg but the rest is questionable from that pic.

We'll definitely need several more pictures! Does look genuinely old though and pretty cool if it's a pull toy. Looking forward to more pics.

Sorry, think I wrote wrong above, Its not mine, its my grandma's, so I havent got a lot of pictures.
Im not sure what it is made of, but its an toy, so...
Its color is kind of beige.
Its about half a meter from the floor to the saddle
Its in Norway, dont know where it's coming from, by the way:)

So I can see the tail is missing, most of the mane, the bridle is gone, can't tell if the eye is glass, saddle leather? is cracking, but the horse appears to be in nice condition. These pull toys are very scarce and desirable. So being this is from Norway, was it made in Norway or another country like Germany? Germany made many of these toys and exported them all over.

Here is a similar leather horse "pull-along" in a museum. I think what you've got is leather that has shrunk over time. You can see the same effect in the neck on the museum horse. You definitely have some condition issues, and I don't think yours ever had the hair on the hide like the museum example, it looks like it was a skin. My guess is that this is going to end up dating to the second half of the 19th century.

Not sure of the value yet, but you can register with some of these auction sites to see what these horses sold for. I do think you'll find that it is collectable, even with the condition issues.

How neat to have this in your family. I'm guessing it's a family item and hope that it will continue to be for many more generations!
