Cogar could be right about the pot !! Isn`t most maple sap boiled without a lid to allow the water to evaporate ? We do not have sugar maple trees in my area of Texas !! Don`t think they would like this heat !! And the slanted bottom would make sense for that use as it allowed all the syrup to be drawn off without having to lift and angle the pot. You would have to raise one side of a flat bottom pot to get it all !! The small parts are cream separator but could be that the parts were just stored together and not necessarily used together !!
