Levi Strauss 'Guarantee Ticket' picture
« on: August 13, 2011, 11:38:32 am »
Hello everyone....

A friend of mine who doesn't have the net has asked me to do a bit of research on the picture in the link. From what I can fathom out it was made around 1983 (unlike the original 'ticket' it says for over 130 years which would make it 1983) and it doesn't bear the exact wording of said ticket.. link to the ticket I'm referring to http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=8iAjxdfLDgsC&pg=PA21&lpg=PA21&dq=levi+strauss+silver+medal+awarded+by+california+state&source=bl&ots=o3_EalOzfs&sig=b5bXj7c5hjchCXJpchZhCw2xFUM&hl=en&ei=2WJGToeCFIql8QO5zfzLCA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CF8Q6AEwAw#v=onepage&q&f=false

Other than that I have no idea where it was made or why it was... commemorative etc or just a pure fake rip off....?  http://tinypic.com/r/f80g4/7

Any thought's

Thanks

I'm guessing nobody has seen one before ;D

Might try it on the Antiques Roadshow if I can get tickets!

I can't tell what this item is since all that is shown in the second image is  the printing on wood. It looks to be a nostalgic reproduction, clearly stating it's age so that it would not be confused with a true antique. That's how good reproductions should be done, by incorporating the truth into the nostalgic look of the piece. As it says in your book, the original was a leather patch inside a pair of pants. Don't think of the wooden item as a rip off or a fake, there is no deception here. It's clearly a decorative piece celebrating the nostalgia of a by-gone era.

Yeah definitely a reproduction, if my math serves me painted/printed around 1983. Was going to by it for my collection but 9k seems pretty steep!!

9K?!!!! Really? I would be interested to know who is selling it. They must believe it to be original or maybe there is something we don't know about it.

Good Lord ....

speaking for me , I'd not spend 90 pennies on it ... my place is 'busy' (aka cluttered with) enough that it looks like an antique mall sometimes ... which perhaps would be a place to market such "fantasy" items , or a swap meet perhaps , IMO .

Thanks for posting it , dusty321 !

More like $14,650, for you guys and gals state side, I was talking 9,000UK£  ;D

On closer inspection the 'age cracks' are painted on but the shield is a metal of some kind, I'm guessing not silver though!!

On a side note, even though it looks like a repo it 'could' be a rare repo, I can't find nothing anywhere that relates to another one of these around??

We'll add the rarity factor in and I'll say it's worth $61.00. ;)
I'm sorry but a sign made in the 80's is just not valuable. It is cool looking and would look great in a restaurant or clothing store. It's just not worth anywhere near that price and never will be. Well, maybe in 250 years or so.

A rare repro? That is an oxymoron if there ever was one.

I think hosman is high at $61.00 and fancypants is spot on at 90 pennies, give or take a penny.
