Beer clocks on Craigslist - value?
« on: August 18, 2011, 10:58:27 am »
This is my first post, so hello all!

I was going to buy these two clocks on Craigslist, they are cheap. I'm not hitting jackpot or anything, but does anyone know if these are nice or just another old beer clock?

Picture here: http://i.imgur.com/FqhFR.png

Two clocks, four pictures.

Thanks!
Matt

First welcome to the forum,, hope you enjoy it !!
They look awfully new for original clocks !! Any reason for that given ?? Falstaff is a fairly old beer,, I remember it from the 50`s !!

I just sent an email asking about the years they are from. They are both working, and the Michelob one lights up

Chances are if they are cheaply priced,, they are repro`s and the seller knows it !!  But let us know what they say !!

Well the falstaff sign was a repro...its still neat, and for $25 I'm not complaining.

The michelob one was original, from 1971 I believe. I saw one this weekend at the antique flea market, in a bit of better shape he was asking $85 for it.

I'm happy with my purchase. My clock does stop spinning every once in a while, any recommendations on grease or something to try to fix the problem?

Thanks!

Sometimes one of the hands becomes loose or is bent causing it to "catch" on the clock face or the other hand as they pass each other by.

Cleaning the gear mechanism - flush it with lighter fluid and then put a couple drops of 3 in 1 oil back on it.

We have an antique pendulum style wall clock that gets a bit contrary at times !!  We just put a little 3 in 1 oil in a lid of some sort and set it in the cabinet. The oil will evaporate and keep the mechanism running smoothly !!  But like Cogar says,, it could just be a snag on the clock hands !!  Check all that first !!

I apologize, I made that sound very confusing.

The clock keeps time just fine.

When I meant the clock stopped spinning was that it actually rotates on the base, on the inside. Not the hands on the clock like I initially made it sound.

Here is a videa: http://youtu.be/R3H8bzvLP0I

See how it spends 360 degrees...mine hangs up every once and a while and does spin, but it will hold the time perfectly.

Hopefully I cleared myself up, and thanks!

Oh !!  Can you see the mechanism or is it all enclosed ??  If you can see it try spraying a short shot of WD 40. If you can`t see it you may need to remove the base !!  There may be a hole on the bottom for oil !!  Just put a drop in !!

Ok, I will check that...the gears are enclosed. I saw screws to remove the top, I will also check the bottom and get that done.

Thanks!
