When tales sees this she'll likely have some good resource links for you and I'm pretty sure there's someone else here as well who's familiar with doll heads.

This just helps with IDing what kind of doll one has......

http://antiquechild.com/category/china-doll-types-era-details/

"Lowbrow China dolls were the end of china doll production and made for 40 years.  Those that could not
afford  the ”new” bisque head dolls with ball jointed and leather bodies and REAL hair had to settle for
a “cheap” doll.   China heads were sold in parts of heads, arms and legs through catalogs like Montgomery
Ward, Sears and Roebuck and Wards.  If the buyer could not afford arms and legs, a head was purchased
and the other parts were made from materials at hand.  When a part broke, another could be purchased. "

No there's no marking of any kind. I saw the hertwigs but they all have names accross the chest it seems. is it possible the name wore off?

It seems there are specific ones with the names, but many show none at all. I know I ran across a picture somewhere of one showing just a collar (without name or other 'decoration'), but can't remember where in my travels I spotted it and don't think it had a maker attributed to it.

Sure looks Lowbrow to me for sure, can't verify hertwig, but I would say it looks just like the one Sapphire posted, "hair style".

I think that Hertwig is probably correct, but post it on the Ebay doll forum. There are some collectors/enthusiasts who are quite good at identifying antique dolls: http://forums.ebay.com/db1/forum/Dolls/18 They were very helpful to me identifying a couple of my dolls.
