Old/Antique German Wind up Wood Clock
« on: August 29, 2011, 03:40:28 pm »
Hello,

I have come across a clock here that has got my attention. I know nothing about other than The mechanism is stamped :
"CHS"??
Germany
151-080
23cm\136

The casing is wood with Flower designs that seem to be cutouts of wood themselves. I took pictures to the best that I can I hope someone can Identify this.

The back looks to be refinished, as it does not go with the rest of the clock.

Here is a link to an album with the pictures.

This looks like a reproduction to me and not a genuine antique. The molded Roman numerals appear to be plastic. See how it looks like they are "bubbling" up through the gold around them? They look much too bright, white n' shiney to be antique. I bet the interior looks pretty shiney new too.

I agree with tales, I think the back does go with the clock and is original. A quality piece also would not have all those screws on the front. That just looks tacky and cheap. I'm voting reproduction.

Thanks for your time.

I checked the Roman Numerals and they are not plastic. They do seem to be modern as I realized it is printed pain ontop of aluminum looks like to me.

It is still very pretty and would look great on someone's mantle. Which would be a good alternative for someone who can't afford a really old one. I apologize for being rude!  :-X
