Milk Glass Rooster bowl no marks...

I have this milk glass rooster bowl that I know nothing about. Was it used to hold eggs? If so I think it might fit 2 or 3  can anyone tell by the design who made it....actually any info on it would be much appreciated =) It is a pretty cool little item.

Almost everyone that lived in the country had one of these !! My mother used hers for storing the kitchen scouring pad !!  They are handy for soap dishes too which is what I think they originally were !!

I have an oblong one similar to that. They used it for butter. I am going to search for it thanks to all the information here.

I remember going to an old friend of my grandparents house (they had a farm) and i thought i remembered seeing something similar to this by the kitchen sink  It probably had pads in it!!

I was a young kid at the time, but we made frequent visits to the farm...those were fun times...

You're welcome!  I'm glad I could finally help someone    I'm getting better with recognizing glassware because I love it all so much!  If I were you I would hang on to this piece because right now Indiana Glass pieces can sell for pretty low and I think that's certain to change as time goes by and they inevitably become harder to find (same with others like Hazel-Atlas).  People used these covered hen dishes for butter, eggs, soap, and a variety of purposes back in the day.  They were a very popular style made by multiple glassware companies.  I love that style...I'd almost design my whole kitchen in a Country style just to showcase one of these

By the way that natural flaw in the bottom seems to be pretty common on this particular item by Indiana Glass, for some reason.  I don't think it's a maker marking, I believe it's unmarked.

   They are called Nesting Hens, and they are candy dishes, I have sold 2 of these so far, and still have another, easy to sell but not for much.  Many makers made these, and in a variety of colors.  Just look up nestings Hens on ebay and see how many there are.  I just picked up two nesting turkeys the other day at the auction, because they seem really easy to flip.
