1950s Fridge

Hello I have a 1950s GE Fridge. That still works and is in good condition. Ive been trying to sell it and I had no luck. I am looking for a collector or anybody that would be interested.

These bad boys can be a hard sell , esp if you can't find a buyer nearby .

Any buyer from 'out of town' has got great leverage to negotiate price , since such old refridgeration systems can be somewhat fragile , when transported (stuff happens , ya' know?) .

My best guess for a customer is to post in on-line in forums/ad bbs's/etc dedicated to old appliances of this type &/or check with some local repair &/or retro shops (maybe post a pic on their wall & so on....)  .

This forum is not really for marketing/selling/advertising anything , snave , but you never know what you'll find out about your item !

Inside looks pretty rough !!  If outside is the same might be hard to sell !!   If potential buyers ever had to defrost one,,,they wouldn`t touch it if you gave it away !!  Didn`t have frost free on many back then !!

I called GE and talked to Historian of GE about this and they said if it still works and its in good condition. Its worth between 2,000.00 to 3,000.00. I asked the historian if they wanted to buy it and he said and I quote "We have a museum". LOL ok.    So I posted it on bookoo.com for 3,000.00 a few months ago and I had one person wanted to buy for 1,500.00 and I got greedy and said 2500.00. But the deal didnt go through. I shouldve taken the offer. Now I have it posted 800.00.  Do you think I am wasting my time on trying to sell this thing?

An old refrigerator is a huge, messy, and potentially dangerous thing to collect.  Not saying there aren't old fridge collectors, but that it might be hard to find one -- as someone else said, if they're not local, they have you over a barrel. 

I'm dubious about the $3000 worth.  For the same price, you can get a retro fridge that's new, that doesn't need to be defrosted, and that has all the modern amenities people want.

I would consider this to be "fair" condition. It needs restoration to actually look great in someone's home which costs $$$$.  At least $800 to get it in tip top shape, probably more like $1,500. Since it works, I would say it is worth about $400 in my area in it's current condition. If it didn't work, you'd be lucky if someone would haul it away for you. I LOVE it, it's just not worth what the museum said until it is professionally restored, in my opinion. You are right, it is in good condition considering it's age. But as far as something that holds someone's food, it's not so good.

Precisely!  We have one like this at the fishing cabin.  It can be tolerated five or six weekends  a year -- it's not at all fun as one's daily-use fridge!

Best thing I can say about the old fridges,, they run forever !!
