Silver Lidded Glass Box
« on: September 11, 2011, 11:02:06 pm »
I don't know what this piece is called or was used for.  I think the lid is silver judging by the tarnish but I can't say for 100%.  No marks or stamps anywhere.  The inside of the handle has old white stuff in it like remnants of someone having polished it a long time ago.  The lid was inside the glass bottom part but aggravatingly enough, when I took the lid out for photos, now I can't fit the lid back in.  Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks!  Not hard to correct meaning it's easy to fix it so the lid will fit back in?  How do I do that?

Inside.  I was thinking if I polished it then it might fit again but then I don't want to take the age patina off of it...

First see where it is bent !!  Set the lid on top and rotate it till most is inside,, then wrap pliers with a thick layer of soft cloth  secured with a rubber band and gently work the bent side back in !! You will need to start at one side of the bent area and just gently work around the lip till it fits correctly !!  Take your time and you will get it without scratching it !!  Just be easy as you go !!

Thanks mart I should have said this Is a vintage powder jar.  :)  The glass base on this one is the same as yours   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-art-deco-powder-jar-glass-painted-metal-top-/130574896547?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e66decda3

many companies used the same glass base & changed the covers/tops. many perfume companies did the same alike bases & all diffrent tops.
