antique lithograph (?) need help with age and id
« on: September 25, 2011, 05:36:27 pm »
Hi folks. this picture and frame have been passed down multiple generations in my family and Im wondering if anyone can recognize it. Ive googled everything I can think of and come up dry.Ive only seen this once before, and that was in the background of a world war 1 movie so Im wondering how old ( and valuable ) this might be. Not sure if its a lithograph. Were going to take it in this week and have the frame professionally removed to find a signature or ID of some sort if no one has seen this. Ive stared at this since I was a small boy and Id love to know the history. Thanks for any help

I am guessing it is a print  but could be a litho cant see close enough to tell !!  There should be a name on the border or just above but looks like your frame covers it !! A couple of pages back someone else had a similar one but can`t remember who !! I am not sure but I think there was a series made of similar prints !!

Another little blip.....

http://www.squidoo.com/landseer

"...... he produced some of his most memorable and moving images in the period after 1840, among them his great deer pictures. His heroic stags exhibit strength, courage, fearlessness, defiance, loyalty and endurance and none more so than the aptly named The Monarch of the Glen. Often the victims of man, they also offer inspiration to him in their character as free and sovereign creatures of the high hills - a counterpoint to the sturdy independence and bravery of the British people."

Thanks for all the help guys, I knew I could count on you. so whats the date on this and would it be worth checking out further or leave it in the frame? I believe it was handed down to my grandma by her grandpa so it goes back a ways

I finaly got some close up pictures taken. What am I looking for to discern a print from a lithograph? To me this doesnt look like a regular print but Im green, the paper seems really old and textured and the ink seems to run a bit .. not sure if that means anything or not. Thanks!!
