I am just wondering around what date these pieces may have been made?

Peck & hills
« on: October 07, 2011, 01:00:48 pm »
I bought these from a gentleman that was tearing down a building, he said he purchased them in the early 1970s and then gave them to his son who no longer wishes to store them. I heard the company went out of business in the 1950s and was hoping that someone could possibly give me an estimate of when they may have been made.  :)

I found the number 140 on the back of both pieces, not sure if that means anything!! I found no other numbers anywhere that I can see on either piece. The draws are all dove tail and I see no modification to any place on either piece. Everything seems to be original. I am also not sure what kind of wood. I really bought them becasue I thought they were beautiful and I could not pass on the price either!

You cannot say that a piece of furniture was made in any particular decade without the date of manufacture being written on by the maker !!  Styles overlap decades !!  I would say that these were probably made late 30`s or early 40`s just by what I can see !!

That drawer side is oak but can not tell by the secondary wood what the buffet actually is made of !!  Looks like some may be veneered but need closer pics of front !! And take a pic of the top of that buffet !!  Thats where the wood will show up best !!
