gold ring
« on: October 11, 2011, 08:13:22 am »
Hi, Back again with another gold ring.
This one is an unknown oval cut stone, poss Amber?
The one im stuck with is the date, the ring is stamped in this order:  W&G, 9, .375, The Anchor (on its side, and what looks like a 'W' in a square box with cut corners.
The problem is the 'w' does not really look like any on the date assay stamps that would correspond with the cut corner box its in.
Please help.
And thanks to those who helped before!
P.S. sorry about pic quality.

You should check out WILSON & GILL (Silversmiths & Retailers, London, UK) - ca 1892 - Present.

The stone might be citrine. Any jeweler should be able to tell you what it is. It is lovely, I love the colored gemstones, especially when they have a "glow" to them like this one. One of my favorite rings is an antique ring recovered from a shipwreck that I had set with an imperial topaz, which is a soft pink. I chose the stone to compliment the setting and not to overshadow it. Gemstones are great for that.

Citrine or Amethyst.
