What is it, and is it worth anything?
« on: October 22, 2011, 02:37:37 pm »
Found this in an old house I was cleaning out and figured I should bring it home instead of throwing it in the trash.  Ya never know.  Anyway, any info would be appreciated.

It's metal...  the glass piece says "18" on it, which I'm guessing means 1918.

Wish I knew more...  I'm not an antique guy...  Just didn't want to throw it away in case it was worth something.

Looks like an old camp stove...  Most old ones (vintage/antique) go for around $25 on eBay.

Might be a bit big for that?

I wish I had more info on it but what you see is pretty much what you get.  I looked all over it for some sort of marking but don't see one other than the glass "18".

Looks like a kerosene stove or similar fuel !! Single burner units like this are frequently used at hunting camps !! Pretty neat little item !! Would be good to fry fish outside !!  Its a keeper !!
Most likely if the 18 is on the glass it is the size of the glass rather than the date !! Date would have been on the metal part if there were one !! Most just had a brass plate with manufacturers info !!

It was a local neighborhood market store and there is no reason to believe they were Jewish.  They had a library that we also cleaned out and there were a few Christianity books but nothing Jewish-related that I saw.

Religious Jewish people use this type of thing in their kitchens on Friday nights. That way they would not have to cook. They could keep their food warm without having to cook.

Is that a "shut-off" knob on the front or a "pump" knob like is on a Coleman lantern/stove?

No pertinent info here but seems everyone is spot on with the burner (just include oven now  ;) )
