ONE LITER FRENCH FAIANCE CREMER - ART NOUVEAU DESIGN
« on: October 22, 2011, 04:26:37 pm »
Dear friends, in an auction in Montevideo I bought a one liter french faiance cremer, Art Nouveau style. It has in the bottom a mark. I was searching in internet in several sites included "GUIDE TO POTTERY AND PORCELAIN MARKS" with no luck.
I attach images of the faiance, also images of the bottom mark.
It seem that the mark represents the letters JD or JDB.
The image of the bottom is very clear.
Do you know something about this pottery?
Can be a piece of JULIUS DRESSLER CREATED IN FRANCE?

Best regards,
LILI MARLENE

Oh, this piece is just gorgeous, I love the colors! I don't know much about porcelain/pottery marks but there are a few members here who know a lot. I hope they can help you! :)

Your piece is not faience, it's majolica.  I have never seen a piece of Dressler majolica without the tower mark.   I'm not sure whose mark that is off hand, hopefully someone else will recognize it.  Myself, I find books much more helpful than the internet for searches like this, but I think I may be in the minority these days.  :)

I think your maker is J. Dimmock & Co. Cliff England Hanley, Staffordshire, England, Earthware, 1878-1904

Sorry KC I was looking only at the mark. That matched the mark in my book. I'll have to go go back to the books, lol I'm to reread.

I don't see any other J. D. under the "j" section. Sorry, I'm no help. I'll go through the book and it could be listed some where else.

Sorry there is no other marking like yours in the book at all. I have checked a couple of times.

Sorry I didn't conect before because the sistem at home fall down. Is whrigt saying so? The problem might be that at home all the computers are interconected and my sons used also. I didn`t grow with this tecnology and sometimes get confused. I`m arquitec but prefer employ students to do all the computers problem.
About this lovely majolic I found apparently is a rare. Somebody says that is not a faiance and realice that I thouth it was, because interprated majolic of France with faiance like synonims.
Then I realice that I`m confused with the terms Terracot, Faiance, Majolic and probably others. At first thouth was a lenguaje translation because my mother lenguaje is spanish, now realice is more complex
Forgive my english is a lot of years that have learned. Waiting for more oppinions By lili marlene
