a couple interesting finds

Hi folks. found these today and wanted to see how old and what, if anything, they might be worth. The first is an old ice house wood stove, not in the best shape but still burns wood. The second is a twisted lightning rod holder and Id never seen one like this befor.. was guessing its mid 1800's but not sure. just wanted to run them by you folks. No markings on either, paid $4 apiece so I thought it was worth the risk! thanks for looking

You really need to post better pics of your items.

The lightening rod pics do not show the entire piece in any picture.

The twisted lightening rod style was very popular and commonplace.  There typically were glass balls to the more ornate ones.

At $4 a piece you did good.

the lightning rod itself wasnt the find, already had it. just came across the twisted stand today so thats what the pictures of.. and really cant get any better pics of the wood stove, its just that ugly.. and with no makers mark was just thinking maybe someone recognized the style...

Typical stands were made of metal/steel and aren't worth a whole lot without the rod. 

FYI just within the past few months I have seen quite a few for sale for $4.99 up to $14 and they aren't selling.

I didnt figure it was worth much by itself, was really just wondering if this was an older piece or just different from the straight models with the clamps I see all the time.. looks alot more interesting anyway. had a straight stand with the rod and vane before but this one gives the whole package a more elegant elegant look. always nice to have an age with an artifact

One time at an auction, I purchased the inventory of an old lightning protection company, with most of the items dating back to the 1900-1920 era. Among the items were wooden shipping crates full of NOS twisted stands similar to yours. I'm guessing that the design probably goes back to the 1890's.

The small stove looks like a shop built version of a typical 6 plate design. At $4 you probably couldn't buy the welding rod to make one.

had to show ya this.. spent 20 minutes getting the stove cleaned up, straightened, and oiled and sold it 2 hours later for $25. it was fun to do and it was a nice quick turnaround, prolly shoulda asked for more lol

Nice profit tho!!  That would be a handy item during bbq season. I love cooking outside the 3 days a year our weather allows  ;)

too small for a smoker I think.. the guy who bought it was was a fisherman so Im guessing its goin in his icehouse
